The school cares for students aged between 11 and 19, and with a wide range of special educational needs, the staff has it’s work cut out.

They are determined to develop the full potential of every single one of their students. To do so they aim to provide the youngsters with as a wide a range of experiences as possible given their various difficulties.

The students love visiting Calf Fallow Farm and get a terrific amount out of interacting with the animals in the petting barn.

Debbie Hales, Special Needs Assistant, said: “We’ve started bringing students here every week, and it’s so popular we have to draw up a rota. Today we’ve brought Gemma and James and they love to go in the pens with the lambs and goats.”

“When we come here they can get a wholly different range of sensory experiences. They can interact with the animals, hear the different noises they make and feel the difference between wool and coarse hair. This sort of experience is so crucial to developing them to their full potential.”
