Pam Gill has only recently started volunteering at the Daisy Chain Superstore on Portrack Lane in Stockton and she has taken to it like a duck to water.
After early retirement from Barclaycard in Stockton, Pam was looking to put some of her spare time to good use. Having already experienced corporate volunteering through her full-time role, Pam decided volunteering was the way to go.
“I was driving past the Daisy Chain store all the time so I was drawn to it. It’s a local charity and such a worthwhile cause.”
With her excellent numeracy skills, Pam has proved a whizz on the tills and she enjoys meeting the customers face to face. “I’ve never been customer facing in person, just on the telephone so it’s lovely to meet people and chat to them.”
Pam works 10am to 4pm each Wednesday and explains, “I wanted the opportunity to give something back. It’s also good fun because it’s much busier than I expected and everyone is so welcoming, lovely and friendly so I am really enjoying it. I do enjoy working on the till as I like figures and numbers.
“I would recommend volunteering at Daisy Chain and volunteering in general. It’s a completely different experience and there isn’t the pressure you have when you are in paid work.”
