As part of National Volunteer Week, we’re introducing you to some of our lovely volunteers here at Daisy Chain. Today, we’d like you to meet Fiona…
What do you do at Daisy Chain?
I volunteer with the children after school at the Tuesday Club and I support the parents at Links on a Thursday, making tea and lending an ear.
Why did you choose to volunteer at Daisy Chain?
I used to work with a lot of children pre-diagnosis so that’s where my interest in autism came from. I knew of Daisy Chain already so when I left my job, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
Why do you enjoy about volunteering at Daisy Chain?
I love the community of Daisy Chain. Everyone works together. The atmosphere is great and it’s a pleasure being able to support the children. It’s nice to work with different age groups too as I mainly used to work with under 5s. On the flip side, I love supporting the parents and having that contact. You learn so much from them.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking of starting to volunteer?
Do it. It’s a great experience. What better way can you spend your time than helping someone else?
