Job Brief

We are looking for a strategic and dynamic professional to take on a newly created role as Retail Business Development Manager. The main purpose of the role is to support the Head of Development & Economic Generation by maximizing the performance and growth of our charity Superstore and Ecommerce Outlet.

The post holder will identify, explore and implement new retail opportunities within store and online, stimulating further economic growth. This will involve the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships across a variety of sectors, businesses and stakeholders.

The post holder will lead and optimise financial and customer performance at our retail Superstore at Portrack lane, Stockton. The postholder will be working within a fast-paced retail environment, working with a diverse team and taking large volumes of donations.

We are looking for an individual who is highly self-motivated, positive and resilient. With enhanced people and change management experience the candidate must be comfortable working with targets and developing retail KPIs.

Key Tasks

Strategic Performance:

  • Implement the Retail Strategy, delivering agreed strategic objectives, enhancing existing income streams to ensure sustainable income and identifying and developing new retail opportunities to deliver growth in revenue and profit contributions
  • Exploration of initiatives to broaden our sales reach such as overseas markets
  • Establish key relationships with external companies to develop strategic objectives inclusive of but not limited to; estate agents, solicitors and building companies
  • Maximise efficiency of shop floor and warehouse activities, including the management and flow of stock items on the shop floor, in-store promotions, overseeing till operations including accurate recording of Gift Aid and other stock management tasks
  • Implement processes to reduce our effect on the environment by reducing landfill whilst maximizing income.
  • Ensure agreed income targets are reached
  • Monitor and evaluate the strategy, ensuring ownership by individual managers, and deliver project milestones and financial targets
  • Regularly review the effectiveness of the retail operations, recommend and implement changes to maximise profitability

Store Performance and Management

  • Develop performance criteria, setting targets and challenging Key Performance Indicators for the store and all staff, reporting performance regularly to the Head of Development and Economic Generation
  • Work with Superstore and Warehouse Managers to prioritise the workload and ensure resources are utilised effectively
  • Provide line management support to Shop Floor Manager and Warehouse Manager
  • Working with the Head of Development & Economic Generation as appropriate to enable Daisy Chains retail operations to function smoothly
  • Hold regular staff meetings and provide a link between Superstore and Farm staff
  • Maintain up to-date policies and procedures and ensure these are embedded across the Superstores operations
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of the retail market and the activities of other charitable organisations to identify market gaps and new opportunities
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the superstore and that staff/volunteers are supported
  • Work with Daisy Chain internal marketing team to both maximize footfall and brand presence
  • Any other reasonable related activities that may arise from time to time

Additional responsibilities

  • Role-model effective partnershipworking with the fundraising team
  • Key holder responsibilities including opening up and closing down and ensuring the shop is secure at all times
  • Keep accurate records as necessary and provide these in a timely and efficient manner as required
  • Comply with the Charity’s Health and Safety policy in all employment practices

  • Maintain a proactive approach to your role and responsibilities along with commitment to contribute and maintain the positive working ethos within the Charity
