Post Title: Fashion Clothing Upcycler/Repurposer

Reporting To:  Head of Business Development & Economic Generation

Salary: £20,500 per annum pro rata

Hours:7.5 hours per week -Fixed Term for 12 months (with a view to extend subject to funding)

Job Summary

Do you have enhanced sewing skills and know how to transform dull fabric and old clothing into exciting high quality restyled clothing, using a sewing machine?  Are you creative, imaginative and committed to reducing textile landfill?

Daisy Chain is a unique charity that was founded in 2003 to provide a haven for families affected by autism in the Tees Valley. We currently have staff of nearly 90 alongside our team of volunteers across our Day Centre in Norton and Superstore at Portrack Lane.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Charity as we continue to grow and develop the services we offer.

Key Tasks

The post holder will be an integral part of our community ‘reuse and repurpose’ enterprise initiative. They will be responsible for the transformation of damaged donated textiles into re-saleable, one of a kind pieces.

Working creatively, alongside volunteers, the post holder will ensure a high level of design and production of innovative, eye-catching and fashionable upcycled items of clothing to be sold across our multiple online platforms.

Textile Upcycling

  • Identify clothing and other textiles from our donations that are suitable for clothing upcycling.
  • Prepare items for upcycling including cutting, sewing, stitching and other techniques associated with textile upcycling.
  • Transform unloved or damaged items into saleable products through creative and resourceful repurposing techniques that will generate income.
  • Engage in creative design and production of desirable, on trend and fashionable clothing/accessories.
  • Increase the value of donations through upcycling.
  • Ability to communicate with store personnel in the collection of items/materials that are suitable for upcycling,
  • Carry out risk assessments for activities that take into account health and safety regulations.


  • Deliver basic training workshops to upskill volunteers and show them how to use equipment and develop basic upcycling techniques.
  • Task volunteers with items to repair and fix matched to their area of skill/experience

  • Comply with the Charities’ Health and Safety policy in all employment practices.

Person Specification

  • A background and experience in working with a broad range of textiles including clothing and fabrics. (E)
  • Experience of making or adapting clothing.(E)
